Heilig Chapter one.
As Emily slouched down upon her couch she looked around her newly furnished loft. Back on 8th street, she'd never of dreamt coming back. Looking over the room she contemplated on rearranging the furniture for a fourth time or just leaving as it is for now. Sighing she pulled a pillow to her chest and fell over on one side. Slowly her grasp on the soft pillow loosened and she found herself on the verge of dreamland.
No one knew she was back, not Gabriel and not her sister Hakumei. Wiping the sweat from her brow in annoyance Emily let the pillow fall to the floor as she rested her worn out body on the soft loveseat. Slowly Emy drifted into her favorite place to visit, DreamLand. It was a place of tranquil beginnings and fairytale endings a place where she could be with whom ever she wished.
It was nearing the end of Winter and a cold but yet devote young man was sitting down on the cold and frozen ground covered with white powder. He didn't seem to mind it at all. The cold of the day, the snow that fell down around him, or the fact that Remy was late once again.
Gabriel knew he promised her a day without arguements, but what he had learned from Hakumei earlier that day was heartbreaking. Besides Hakumei, young Remy was all her had left really. A true friend he could sometimes see eye to eye with and that was what he longed for, a companion or atleast someone to mingle with.
Ofcourse Remy had done her share of odd-ball lies, or pranks to him but nothing was compared to what he was told. Remy was leaving, and for a place outside the states, somewhere that was so far away English was a third tongue there. Clentching a fist full of snow he listened carefully as it crunched into a ball of ice in his palms. With a sigh he closed his eyes and awaited for Remy to join him outside his front yard on 8th street.
Remy walked down the cold sidewalk rubbed her hands along the fabric of her sleeves creating friction to stay warm. As she neared 8th street she kept thinking about what had happened before she had met Gabriel. He had saved her, or attempted too. Hakumei shot the men before he had a chance, she knew he wanted to. Those men were sick, but yet they were not the enemy on this street. Something much worse was the cause of all the despair, something that created nightmares for not only children but adults too. Something that sent coldchills down and up your spine, it made the hairs of your neck stand up.
Night Creepers.
At first it was a lie to her, and Remy thought with pure logic at this, and chuckled in its face with a high smile. She was just too "smart" or too "cool" to believe all the hype about blood sucking angels. Until she met Karma and Charlie, the Night Creepers that approached them that same night she met Gabriel. That night changed her world forever, and she would not have it any other way.
Coming up behind Gabriel a smile crept on Remy's face as she put her hand upon her hips and mocked a british accent.
"Eh you! Whyya' sittin' ther' on der cold grounds? Doncha' get the chillies?" a small chuckled emitted from Remy's lungs before she took a seat beside him.
Gabriel shot her a smile, it was good to hear her voice. It had been afew weeks since they last talked on the count of Remy was finishing up her Senior year at the local Private school Hakumei had enrolled her in.
"Isn't it great?" Remy asked brushing stray strands out of her face.
"What's so great brat?" he asked sratching his head as Remy playfully pushed him over. He reluctantly got up from his spot and sat perfectly where he was before.
"You know what I mean! We're normal kids again..They are gone for good, and we no longer have to fight them. Michael can rest in peace and you got your life back. And all those missing person cases have been solved and put away. 8th street is back to the way it used to be, and we can live normal lives!" she said before embracing him in a playful hug. She burried her head deep within his chest and into his coat. Remy could feel the warmth of his body against her face and it felt so nice.
They sat in an akward silence for awhile before Gabriel finally got the courage to bring it up. Funny how that is. He was always so blunt and straight with Remy and yet asking her this question was the hardest thing in the world. Pushing Remy away he looked her straight in the eyes.
"Remy...Why didn't you tell me you were going to Germany?" he asked with a slight hint of sadness in his beautiful blue optics. He pulled his head away form her, he couldn't stand to look at her. The once happy face turned into a stormcloud that rained on their momentous occassion. And they were just starting to get along great.
"Who told you..." was all Remy could say as she jolted up from her spot on the cold hard ground. Gabriel turned to face Remy whose face could of melted the snow if it caught a feel. She looked down at him with such a new found anger. "Was it Hakumei?! Did she tell you?!" she demanded before pushing him over on the cold hard ground.
"Hey!" retorted Gabriel before jolting to his feet. "I only asked you why! You don't have to throw a fit you aren't three fucking years old Remy!"
Gabriel got up from where he was sitting and paced over to the side of his home. He felt a pain he hadn't felt since Michael left his life, his older brother, the only thing he had in the world. And now Remy was leaving, one of the good things that had happened to him since he left the Asylum.
He could hear Remy's feet crunch over the snow that binded together as she stepped upon them. She walked cautiously over to him and attempted to place a hand on his shoulder for sympathetic reasons. Grabbing Remy's hand Gabriel pushed it away.
"Gabriel..." she mummbled through broken sobs. "I..." she began but was cut off by a loud 'shh'.
"Just forget it, just forget about me and your sister! Forget all the ones who love you and go run off to find a family that didn't even bother looking for you!"
Remy stood there in silence as he turned his face to see hers. Those hazel eyes she bore upon her face filled with tears. And how Gabriel wished he wasn't the cause of it, he'd been the reason for so many of those fallen tears...All the pain. He turned to hug her but was confronted by a fierce slap across the face.
"...." was all Remy could say, deep breathe came from her mouth as she panted in horor at what she had just done. Today was the day she would confess something to him, but now it was too late. That monster...No that angel... He was her reason, she wanted to help him fight the Night Creepers because she was fond of him, and a good looking guy like that did not deserve to live in pain and suffer every waking moment.
She turned and ran tears trickled down her face as she mumbled the words she longed to say to him.
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Emily awoke to the noise of her cell phone ringing that rested on the desk nearest her computer. She looked over and saw the Caller I.D was unknown. Sighing deeply she groaned as she rubbed her eyes violently before picking it up.
"Err....'Ello?" she asked before walking towards the hallway.
"Emily get your butt to the door!" demanded a stern and strong female voice from the other end before the loudness of the evil dialtone hit her eardrums. Groaning she shoved the phone into her pocket before going to the door.
What stood before her she couldn't believe. It was Hakumei..but old! A small chuckle came from her lips as she covered it up while pulling the door open. And with her was her neice and nephew. Reiku and Haru, the cutest asian/ginger babies she had ever seen.
Emily invited them in quickly before setting the children down in her living room with some spare toys she had laying around the house. Starting the coffee maker she sat with Hakumei in the dining room discussing what had happened to her in the past seven years.
"Jeez, Emily I haven't seen you since Nonna's funeral and that was four years ago!"
"Yeah, and you were pregnant with the monsters." she joked before Hakumei pushed her away playfully.
"So how was Germany? Did you find anything out?"
"I found out I am German and Russian, and my grandparents looked for me all over after my mothers suicide, but they never checked the United States." she said before placing an elbow on the table and her chin fitting perfectling in the fold her palm made.
They sat in complete silence for the next thirty minutes before Hakumei studied her little sisters face. She knew in her heart that Emily missed him, and that was the reason she came back but did not dare bring it up. Instead she left a little hint.
"Hey Emmy, you know Gabriel?" she asked watching Emily perk up from her small 'depression' all over her kitchen table.
"Yeah..."
"Well he's still around here you know. And he never forgave himself for over-reacting. He wanted nothing more than to go with you to Germany..."
"Oh really?" she asked before sitting straight up in her chair.
"Yeah! Infact Gab still lives in that same house on 8th street!" spoke up Hakumei while raising her hand to illustrate what she was getting at. And she got what she wanted, a smiling darling baby sister. Emily was confused.
He wasn't mad? Maybe he had the same feelings for her, but didn't know how to express them. Completely reasonable!
"Well I have to talk to him about it..." said Emily before fiddling with her lower lip biting it slightly in question. She was now in deep thought about Gabriel and Hakumei thought it best to leave.
Standing up from her chair she hugged her baby sister before rounding up her little ones. They said their goodbyes and Emily was left to clean up the mess. Putting the left toys in the bin and cleaning up the coffee mugs she sighed as she loaded the dishwasher.
Chapter Two - Sacred
"Would it kill you to do something on your nights off?"
Those words were like shattering glass to him, everyday and all day he'd be scolded and confronted on things he had no part in. With a sigh her turned over on the couch grumbling as his body ached all over.
"Hello?!"
No answer came from the blonde's mouth as he rested on the couch. Raising a hand in the air he ushered his girlfriend away which was a sign to leave him alone. Which ofcourse was a bad idea, the hormones were like atomic bombs if he said or did something wrong. A loud scoff came from Candy's dirrection.
"Whatever! I'm going out with Rene and Claire!"
Gabriel raised his head from the couch pillows. a question in his eyes.
"I wont drink!"
And with that the oaken door slammed acrossed the wooden frame, if he didn't have the door reinforced afew years back that thing wouldn't exsist anymore. With a sigh her rolled over on his back a small groan escaped his lungs as he closed his eyes.
"Gabriel..whats wrong?"
His eyes fluttered open in a violent manner as he broke free from his mind. He cleared his head, taking great care and caution to remove her from his mind. Looking up at the television he saw a rerun of the channel six news, some children have gone missing from 8th street. The thought never crossed his mind that they were back. Sighing he reached for the remote which stayed hidden underneathe the cushions, and flicked the Television off.
He heard the front door, thinking he was not expecting any visitors tonight her reached around behind the couch where that old shoe box rested. Covered in dust he opened it, the box itself felt like it would crumble to dust in his hands. He may of changed but his paranoia was still there and took control of his mind everytime something seemed amiss. Grabbing the knife he kept in there he put it in his back pocket before getting up and off the couch.
Little did he know a small surprise was awaiting him at the door.
A new feeling had arose inside him, it wasn't what he thought it was. It was a familair face as he looked through the class window high up on the door. Sighing with relief Gabriel rubbed the back of his head before putting his hand on the door and turning it.
Now he was face to face with her, and he couldn't help but frown. Why was she back?
"Hey...." said Gabriel taken by surprise. She had really grown up in the past seven years. Putting her hands behind her back she rocked herself back and forth upon her heels.
"Hey...."
As innocent as she seemed the words that she could only speak were muffled and all her emotion was hidden well behind a smile.
"It's been awhile..." she managed to get out. There was complete tension between them, not a little not a lot. But it was there, the rainbow they once had had faded and was gone with the rain. But they douldn't just turn around and turn back time, this needed mending.
New emotions swelled up inside Gabriel. Old memories piled up on one another as he watched her as he did the first time they met, it was how he found out her name.
"Yeah awhile...."
Gabriel raised his hands as he spoke to Remy.
"Remy..." he began but was cut off by a small change of emotion.
"It's Emily Rosewald now... Well its always been. I just didn't tell you."
"So you lied to me again."
So she lied again. No big difference. Anger arose inside of him, this girl had lied to him no more than a handful of times in their past but this was the biggest of all of them. He wanted to explode like a volcanoe and tell her how he really felt. Good and bad, but inside Gabriel took in in and walked to the other side of the house as he did seven years ago. He crossed his arms and he knew Emily was upset.
Emily couldn't believe him! Here they were adults now, and tehy still were bickering and fighting like they were teenagers again. After all they have been through she just wouldn't allow herself to grasp hold of the fact they would never be civil.
Arching her back and pulling her fist up to her chest to defend herself.
"I didn't lie! I told you what they told me my name was!"
"Forget it Emily..."
And just like that a memory clicked on inside of Emily's head. He said those same words, which lead to her slapping him acrossed the face and running with her tail between her legs. Some victory...
"How dare you say that Gabriel! I came here to mend things, show you I was okay! Hakumei told me..."
"Hakumei told you lies!" Gabriel spatt back turning to face Emily. Anger flickered in his blue eyes as his words projected towards Emily.
In her rage Emily felt tears form into her eyes before she turned away from Gabriel. His words were like venom to her, and they destroyed her slowly from the inside. Emily was going to run again.
"All I wanted was to be your friend Gabriel...But you keep pushing people who want to be near you further away!" she managed to choke everything back. Her tears, her emotions.
And just as she was about to leave she felt Gabriel take her hands in his own. The warmth from his body filled her up again with hope that maybe it could work.
They stood there looking into one another's eyes, before he pulled her into a locking hug. It was complete bliss for her as they stood there in the cold, only their bodies for warmth, this was euphoria.
Gabriel pulled his head away to look into Emily's eyes. Those eyes held so much hurt and torment he wasn't thinking clearly. He has pushed away the one person who took him as he was, no matter what was thrown at her from his arsenal. Through fighting over stupid things, to learning about each other's past this was really not something to take lightly.
And before he knew it he was confessing.
"Remy...," he began before correcting himself. "Emily I know we fight and don't always see eye to eye..But I promise I'll always be here for you. You are one of my one true friends, and you helped me do what seemed so impossible. I was blinded by my lust for revenge I forgot who was next to me, and who was there for me when I needed someone. I am sorry and I could never repay my debt to you."
And before he knew it their lips conjoined together. Emily didn't want to enjoy it but she did, it was something she had longed for something she needed. But she pulled back to reality, he wasn't forgiven so easily. Emily pushed Gabriel away holding her own cheek before mentally kicking herself in the head.
"It's too late to apologize Gabriel..." she said before running back down the sidewalk towards her loft. She ducked behind a stone wall and let herself crumble down against it for support. She spent the night in tears as she held herself, thinking of her next move.
Chapter Three - Her Ghost in the Fog.
Catacombs.
A silence spread eerily across the land as the two Night Creepers walked down the street and up the steps. A small fairhaired boy followed a very tall and dark haired woman as they vanished into the night.
"Who is this person anyway Karma?" asked the younger boy.
Turning her head in annoyance Karma sighed and ignored him for afew seconds while trying to remember.
"Our new Master Charlie." she said in annoyance as she ripped the doors from its hinges.
"Was that really needed?" asked Charlie before leaning against a rusted railing.
"If you preffer to see everything I do as something stupid stay out here then." she hissed before wandering off into the darkness.
Charlie looked around hesitantly before noticing he was alone in the dark. For awhile he had been learning to control his stuttering and it was working until Karma left his side.
"Thhh-aaa-hat. is--is n-n-noot fuh-nn--neh Kar--Kar-Karma!" he howled before running inside after her into the darkness.
Karma searched the walls for boobytraps and teh like before stepping carefully down the long corridoors laid before them. She raised her arm to hault Charlie in his tracks as she grew her wing and floated off into the darkness upon reaching her destination she came to the ground before pulling a lighter out of her pocket.
A small grimace as she lit the candlebra's came upon her face. Charlie soon followed suit with his wings fully out finding a spot close to Karma.
"R-re-my..." he hissed before crossing his arms.
"Yes," began Karma before feeling her face carefully. On the left side a huge burn mark rested aswell scars acrossed her face. "Yes Charlie she'll get hers!"
Suddenly as Karma snatched the candles from the holder she heard a loud noise in the distance.
"Stay here while I ressurect Master Heilig..."
Karma rested her palm against the cool knob that hung from the wooden doors. Grabbing it tightly she yanked inwards only to have the knob come straight off, the wood showing signs of decay and rotting over the years. No matter for her though, she simply raised her foot and kicked the door in before the room was dark, but as she stepped foot into the candles acrossed the walls lit up as quick as she had came.
She looked around at the dust and cobwebbs that decorated the room before laying eyes on Master Heilig.
"Master...Arise, your children..." she whispered before clentching her fist to her chest. "Your children need you...We're mutating and our King has died long since passed!" she pleaded raising her hands in hope.
"Karma...I hear your request but you have awakened me too soon dear. Now what had happened to your wings?" she asked her eyes forever sealed closed by burns.
"That's why our race is going down hill Master Heilig...She is the reason why."
Chapter Four - Running....
Emily sighed as finished towel drying her ebony locks. Watching herself in the mirror as she did so, she thought back to the moment she and Gabriel had just previous two hours ago. It ended in tragedy, and she couldn't deal with it so she just left.
Mentally kicking herself in the head, she walked out and tossed the towel into the hamper acrossed the room. FEmy then fell to her knee's then readjusted herself so that she was sitting comfortably her back against the matress on her floor. She watched her blinds sway back and forth as the wind blew in softly.
Emily then turned her head in shock towards her balcony door, she didn't have her windows open and this was quite troubling was someone in her home? Quickly she scooted towards the window away from the door. She could feel something outside, like she knew it was there watching her every movement. Suddenly the door swung open, the glass of it shattering everywhere.
"Reh-Remyyyy!!" it growled its hands reaching inside the broken glass window. Quickly Emily stood up before running over to the door, drop-kicking the monster forcing it to fall down upon the pavement below.
She peered over her balcony to see it twitching where it fell. Without thinking Emily began...No Remy began to run again, not to kill the monster but to run away to a safer place.
Chapter Five - By your side
How long had it been since Emily left? Gabriel had no idea honestly. But it sure didn't give him enough time to take in what was going to happen next. And that was his pregnant girlfriend, who had come home drunk.
"You said you wouldn't drink!"
There it was, the 'you'. Promises were always broken in Gabriel's short life as he had lived it in horror on this very street. Gabriel took Candy in much like he did Emily when she was in trouble, but he didn't expect to have a faux love affair with the blonde. Anger swept over his being as he clentched his pale fists.
"Yeah, and yooo- Shaidsh yoush wouldn'tt leafsh me! -hic"
That was the truth, he had sworn to Candy he'd never leave her. But maybe Candy was just someone to fill a void in his empty life. A life with so many endless holes that it was unquenchable, no one could fill them up again except for one person.
"Yeah, but that was before I relised that you don't care about the child. OUR child!"
Stepping back Candy seemed to of come out of her drunken state long enough to see what was really going on.
"I don't need to take thise Gabriel Lilith!"
"Take what? Take in the fact that someone cares about your very being?"
"No! The fact that you are so obsessed over her! You say her name in your sleep, you bring up that stupid pendant all the time, you bring up Night Creepers! They don't exsist Gabriel, they never did! How they didn't throw you into the asylum again after that, I will NEVER know!"
With that said Candy adjusted the strap on her purse, flicked her 'real' blonde hair over her shoulders and headed straight out the door, never to see him again.
He didn't need her, he didn't need the way she smelled, the way her hair looked in the moonlight, or the way her pale face had glistened before in the moonlight. He didn't need Emily, did he? Did Gabriel really say her name in his sleep, he knew he dreamed, but did he actually say?
Emily had run how many blocks? The cold of the pavement swept acrossed her feet as they pounded violently against the sidewalks. She needed out, she want to be free from it all. All these memories were fluttering inside her head, the flickered on and off. The battle between humans and the King it was asif it was still happening.
No.
Something else was happening, that was a Night Creeper, but it's flesh was rotting and it couldn't speak. What was going on? As she clutched the Night Creeper King's pendant in her left palm she held it close to her chest as she soon found herself on 8th street once again. Once reaching the door she fell to her knees as she pounded on the wood door, nearly making the stained glass window fall from its place.
Gabriel went to the door upon hearing it being banged upon. Maybe it was punks, or maybe it was Candy coming back. Why would she need to knock so loudly? That bitch had a key of her own. As he pulled the door open he scrunched his face and screamed at the top of his lungs.
"Jesus Christ Candy! Leave already!"
A silent Emily sat there on the cold stone tiles of Gabriel's front porch. Tears streamed down her cheeks, as he helped her to her feet he saw he mouth 'Whose Candy?'.
"Gabriel I--!" she was stopped by a small index finger being placed on her lips a shhing sound following after.
She didn't need to explain herself, he knew what was happening. All those missing persons reports on the news, a silent eerie tone that 8th street held once again. They were here, but why was Emily crying? Knowing her this wasn't how she'd react, she'd stab the thing, or beat its brains out with her own two hands. Something was amiss.
'That's right..' he thought to himself. 'She isn't Remy anymore...'
"Emily come inside, stay here for the night your place is obviously not the place you need to be." he said before ushering her inside. He lead her up the stairs where she'd sleep for the night and in the morning they'd figure out something.
As time passed by Emily had gotten herself comfortable on Gabriel's bed awaiting for him to come back up the stairs. Hope swept over her being as maybe she'd just imagined Candy being a real person. Maybe it was his cousin that Hakumei told her about? That had to be it, him and his cousin had a fight! But Gabriel had never told her about any distant family.
As she watched Gabriel asscend up the stairwell she chuckled to herself, it was really silly to jump to conclussions like that even for Emily. As she watch Gabriel fluff the bed she heard him speak.
"You'll be sleeping up here, but I'll take the sofa..." he said grabbing one of the black and white print pillows.
"You don't have to do that just yet." Emily said looking at him with a smile. "I'm still worked up from what happened earlier."
They talked for what seemed like hours, and it was amazing for the both of them. Gabriel and Emily the Night-Creeper-Killers-who-kicked-major-ass were back. They shared many stories of the past few years, but never once did Gabriel bring up Candy, that made an everlasting smile rest upon Emily's face.
As the sun began to show over the horizon Gabriel stretched on the bed and looked out the window behind the bed.
"Wow," he began before pulling himself off the bed, and sitting on the edge. "We should really get some sleep tonight...Errr today, we'll call Hakumei this afternoon, I doubt she'll be anything..."
And just like that Gabriel was pulled back upon the bed. Emily's eyes stareing into his. Those pools of deep blue swirled infront of her, a small question arose in them but Emily brushed it away.
"Forget about them for awhile. I've really missed you," she was cutt off by the warm embrace of Gabriels lips to her own. It was ten times better than their first yesterday evening, this one felt more right, like it needed to happen.
Emily and him spent the rest of the early morning hours like this, locked in each others arms and taking on and off articles of clothing.
I just wish I didn't feel like I missed you so much.
